    Faulty Keyboard

Hi all. This is going to sound pretty stupid so forgive me.

A while back (about 3 years) I bought a "Saitek Eclipse III keyboard" from scan along with some other bits. The keyboard worked fine for about 2 weeks and then it mysteriously died. When i say it died i mean the main keyboard buttons stopped functioning. All the media keys and application short cuts still work fine, along with the numpad.

Basically what happens is when I press, say the "f" key, it will type random characters. And that happens for all the main keys. When i say main keys I mean the tilde key to the right control key and everything in between.

Basically all I want to know is what can I do with the thing? I didn't have a chance to RMA it at the time due to certain circumstances and whatnot, and due to the time its been laying around I doubt I will be able to now.

So yeah, any ideas what I can do? Fix it, sell it? I honestly don't know.

    Thanks in advance people!

    Re: Faulty Keyboard

Before you do anything about fixing it, try using a 'live' cd with a version of Linux (I like Mint http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php).

Using a 'live' cd to boot from means that you do not boot into windows, try this and see if you still have problems with your keyboard; if you do then this says that the problems are hardware related, if you do not have problems then they are probably software related, and you may be able to sort them out by removing then reinstalling the drivers (or other means of fixing software problems).

The keyboard has the same issue on all my PC's. Also, most have had an OS reinstall since the keyboard first stopped working.

    Re: Faulty Keyboard

Unless you are hoping for scan to replace the keyboard as defective - 3 years after you bought it - this is a thread that would be better in the general tech forums. I have moved it from the Scan Care forum with an expiring redirection of 48 hours.

You could also contact Saitek and see if they will repair or replace it.

Anyone else got any ideas about what to do with the OPs three year old broken keyboard? If it just one row that has a problem, it could be a dodgy internal connection.
