Watercooling

Hey Guys,

I am looking to get a Watercooling kit (or build my own) I have little/no knowledge of Watercooling these days so im just after some advice

What would i need to fit the following....

Athlon 64 3500+ (Socket 939)
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
GeForce 6800 GT
Coolermaster Wavermaster

I dont want to overclock really, i just want a nice, quiet, cool system. So i dont know if watercooling the chipset would really reduce the noise! I dont mind if it is an external system (like the Koolance Exos etc) or a self-build internal one, but it must be neat and tidy, not like some i have seen with dustbins full or water and car radiators If it is an internal system, i would like the radiator to be able to fit on the 80mm top intake fan. Annnd, thats about it

Personally the smallest internal rad I'd use is 1x120mm or 2x80mm, so unless you can fit one of those in the case look at an external one like the Zalman Reserator or one of the kits from wacc with their P/A reservoir, both should be pretty much silent, although I'm unsure if either of these fit socket 939.

Another option is get a DIY kit from somewhere like
watercooling shop with a large wacc P/A reservoir and run it passive

Watercooling the northbridge is pointless IMHO just fit a zalman passive heatsink or similar.

One 80mm rad will be less effective than a high end HSF, if you don't move your pc around much an external radbox with a decent sized rad & res would get you the best results.

Any other suggestions? As my finger is hovering over the Zalman Reserator order button at the moment...

The reserator would do you proud....as long as you are sure you won't be overclocking, then it would struggle.

If you want quiet then you need a set-up with a big rad and a couple of 7v 120mm fans. Thats what I use. Then you will notice what an irritating fan the 6800GT has on it. So you will need to water cool that. Then you notice how loud the fan is on the PSU....

Oh and don't forget the noise from your hard drives.

This is just my way of saying that the noise from your PC is not only (or even mainly) from your CPU.

Hehe, i dont want a compleatly silent system, i know that will never happen. What i do have is 3x 80mm Vantec Stealth fans (20db) and my Tagan PSU runs at 20db too, so i was wanting something to go nicely with that and replace the noisy beast on my CPU and GFX card But with having a Coolermaster Wavemaster, there is nowhere to mount a 120mm Rad otherwise id be getting a WaterChill or something along the lines of that.... or can you suggest somewhere to put the Rad?

I just put a Zalman Reserator 1 on my FX-53 and X800 XT and it works like a charm. The Zalman is pricey for plain water but it is by far the best. Super easy to install because the pump/radiator/reservoir are all one unit. Makes changing the coolant easier and allows you to run water only (if desired) because galvanic corrosion is not possible due to heavy anodize and plating on all wetted parts. And for overclocking it could be very good. The reservoir is pretty big. Fill it half with water and half with ice or stick an ac unit in front of the Reserator's massive finned reservoir and the water will be very chilled! I love it because it is a fanless system so it's by far the quietest water cooling solution.

Nice one Storm, i think you *might* have just sold it to me Where id you get yours from as id like to order from somewhere that has stock of both the GPU block and the CPU/Res, looked at OcUK but they have a lead time of 4-7 days on the GPU block, cheers

thats the first time i have seen a 10 out of 10 on a Hexus review... okok, im getting one Time to search for somewhere that has the res and the gpu block in stock!

Scan have a delay on the GPU block too... must be a supply problem.

I got mine at a computer show. I am looking for a distributor that carries them so I will be able to supply them soon.
