so all powers up but no ones home?
what happened prior to the screen not working
yeah, small lights come on, but nothing on the screen!!!
What makes the laptop? We had a toshiba in that did that . .it turned out it would need a new main board.
probably either a dead tft
or a dead video processor, VPU most likely on a laptop is onboard which means buying a new motherboard

Check the switch that gets closed when the lid is shut hasn't stuck.
If you plug an external monitor in, does the system actually boot?
???? sorry didnt get it??Originally Posted by Jiff Lemon

try opening it up and disconnecting that switch if you find it on the mobo then try and boot it up.

did you activate the external monitor properly? you might have to activate it using special hotkeys and stuff.
if that doesnt work it sounds like a duff mobo

were abouts would i find this switch, its a Sony Vaio
thanks
Usually along the top of the keyboard.
You might want to try pressing Function F8 (well thats what it is on my Dell), basically it switches between displaying the picture on the laptops screen or the output at the back. (give it a few secs after pushing the button as it takes a little bit for it to change).
You could try taking the HD out and seeing how far it gets.
HD on a laptop, nah never, thanks for the help, i will try 2night agaiOriginally Posted by wol
