    Gradual upgrade help needed....

Not for me, but a friend.

His current spec is an old Asus Mobo (KT133 era), XP2100, gig of 2100 memory, GF6800.

Now, the plan i'm, thinking is upgrade the mobo. Then the memory, then the chip. Board is already at its CPU limit, so quicker chip out of the question.
Why gradually? Well, my mate was made redundant last month so its a "as a when" kinda plan.

He's a planetside freak and apparrently getting lag issues in big battles.

    Upgrade plan look ok?

Recommendations for a good mobo? Will need at least 3 PCI slots, on board sound not needed, ethernet, firewire and USB2 definately are. Will also need 2 ide channels, SATA raid as an option would be nice.

I'm browsing now, but I'm a p4 and shuttle person by default!

The standard is NF7-S, there should be a few around secondhand as people upgrade to A64 etc ... the same should be happening with Bartons etc. as well, so you might be able to pickup a bit of deal s/hand for chip + mobo.

You might be able to pinmod the processor to OC it some, and has he tried softmodding the 6800? Extra performance for free there potentially....
