how many watts ?
hello im wondering if my PSU might be getting a bit overloaded as the fan always seems to be at full speed, the PSU is a Hiper 350 watt
System is athlon xp running as 3200 +, geforce fx5900, 2 x HDD, 2 x DVD rom/writer, 512mb ram, 1 x psone screen ( using cig lighter adaptor ) 4 x case fans & a couple of 12" cathodes
what would an ideal wattage of PSU be ?

That sounds alright to me TBH. Unless your rails are sagging or the air getting blown out the back of the PSU is very hot, I wouldn't worry. Only the processor and gfx card use any significant amount of power, the rest probably suck no more than 50w altogether, apart from when they're all spinning up.
That calculator wildly overstates how much power you need, probably because they want to flog you a bigger, more expensive PSU.

Dunno how accurate this is, but what I've heard is that the rating on the +12V line is most important, and look for about 18+A. I think this is because most devices now run off the 12V rail, and if the 12V rail is good then the rest probably are anyway.
I have definitely noticed that cheap power supplies have a really lame +12V, whereas decent ones have higher.
