how far can i over clock pen 2ghz?

hi i have a pentium 2ghz and i was wondering how far it would over clock and what program i should use to over clock it

That would be SO cool, a program that determins how much you could overclock your processor, and what settings to set it at!

Mikeeq, its not so much as a program to overclock.
you would be looking in BIOS for FSB settings to increase.

Did you buy your computer from a shop? i.e. dell, time, pcworld..?
if so you may have some trouble overclocking as some manufacturers prevent you from doing so :/

iirc im sure ive read the multiplier being 16x...

noo he cant leave the ram at stock! my pc2700 is upto 200fsb, recommend u use memtest86 to test if u overclock ur ram atall, and ull probly need to increase timings a bit depending on the chips on ur ram (both sticks of mine also have samsung chips!)

if you have a gigabyte you can use software to overclock, its called EAsy Tune and it allows you to get overclocks in windows you wouldnt normaly be able to get!

I would highly recommend you overclock through the BIOS rather than through any program. basically in a nut shell all you need to do is go into the bios and raise the FSB. Before you do so i would recommend you do a bit of reading though, on things like motherboard ratio's and speeds other peopel have had out of that chip.

The RAM is rated to run at 166MHz or 2700 MB/s . Although i have seen samsung memory run at much higher speeds as silentdeath mentioned. Its not so much the rating of the RAM more the chips that are on the it. Not all samsung can hit really high speeds but you may have got lucky like many others.

you should just be able to look in the bios, and increase the cpu front side bus (fsb). i tried oneo f the easytune programs, ran it, and the system crashed. had to reset the cmos, so now i just do it maunally via the bios.

as its a p4 board there should be the option to lock the pci/agp speeds at 33mhz/66mhz respectively, so that hte overclock will only stress the CPU and the memory. The memory will be fine til about 180mhz (360mhz ddr), then you might have to increase the voltage from 2.5 to 2.6/2.7 (my pc2700 ram (samsung) is running at 200mhz with 2.7v without problems).

basically, increase the fsb, load windows, run prime95 or some other stability tester, if its ok reboot, increase fsb, run more tests etc, until you get to a point where you cant go any faster
