what to upgrade

hey im finally got 400 dollars to upgrade my computer. i want to be able to play doom 3 @ least on med quality.
heres my specs
amd athalong 1ghz
256mb ram
32 mb geforce 2 mx.

i ran doom 3 on low quality @ 23-30 fps on thsi system @ low quality 800x600 but turned off the advanced features.
now i watn to exprience the true doom 3 experience. and i want some advice on what to upgrade 2

XP-M 2400+
512 DDR3200
9800 Pro

If thats within your budget.

why a xp-m? isnt that a mobile proccesor,
and wouldnt it just be better if i got a nvidia 6800 gt?

Whats your mobo?

If you're running a 1ghz athlon your board and ram probaly are a few years old as well (kt133/266, whatever board and possibly pc100 ram) so theres a good chance you'll need a new mobo and ram as well as cpu.
so $400 for mobo,cpu, ram, gfx ..... fancy 2nd hand?

Putting a 6800Gt in the setup you've got would be a bit of a waste imo as there would be bottlenecks with ram/cpu etc.

As for xp-m's alot of people round these parts like mobile processors as they're low voltage and multiplier unlocked, so generally overclock quite well ....

edit: have a read through a few threads on here, theres quite a bit of advice along these lines been given recently, so your questions have probably been answered in previous posts
