    What motherboard for a FX55

Ok next week ill be buying this chip which is more than likly a silly thing to do in all respects but I have to have one
So what mobo should I get for it? needs to have AGP and DDR support and be good for very high FSB's due to the unlocked nature of the CPU, ive been advised Gigabyte S939 but that runs off the nVidia chipeset which I understand has a slower hypertransport link? does this make much of a difference?
Will hunt round reviews when I get home tonught

You might want to wait for nForce4 (Hexus have a review on the front page), all looks good (apart from the lack of Soundstorm). It should be out fairly soon as well i.e. next couple of weeks.

Waiting for NF4 is fine if you CAN wait and if you don't mind buying a new videocard (PCI-Express). If not the best board out right now is the Asus A8V Rev 2.0. If you have to have NF3, plan on doing VMODS and you are an expert enthusiast with lots of time to dial in a BIOS the MSI and Gigabyte boards are the best right now.

Normally it would be a quite silly thing to do, but with the Winchester core 3000+, 3200+ and 3500+ CPUs overclocking to 2.6ghz, its a very silly thing to do.

No unloced multis, or Strained SOI, plus the FX55's clock to around 2.8 on air so 3Ghz is possible on water, something a Winchester core wont do, oh and the 1mb cache is nice too

Well, its more of a case of - will 2.6ghz do. I think it will.

If you end up getting a bit more, for a £400 sized hole in your wallet, once the novelty wears off, are you going to really be 100% pleased you went through with it?

Just give a nice Winchester core 3500+, an XP-120 and a decent 120mm fan, and a nice 2.6ghz overclock a few seconds thought, before you take the plunge mate.

    Might be for the best.

I can see what your saying mate and i Appreciate you trying to save me the cash but in the past ive gone for the cheaper option and clocked it up and wished I had gone for the faster chip for the extra speed.
Besides at work I can get the chip and pay for it over 6 months out of my wages so it wont seem as expensive at the time.
Trust me theres no talking me out of this one and I will enjoy the chip as long as I have it
Just need to find the best mobo to go with it
Ill pair it up with a nForce 4 mobo when the next gen cards are out and Gainwatd have relesed there Golden sample part

    Wait for NF4 SLi - and get 2 * 6800 PCI-Es.

So, sell all your kit - and run something pap - or get the FX55 and an A8V Deluxe V2.0

Would love to get SLI but that would be overkill even for me lol, My 6800GT is enough for me atm, Just want a stupidly fast CPU.
Checking out the mobo now, cheers for the advice.

    Enjoy then mate.

I'm with you to be honest, I went for a fully fledged X800XT-PE, rather than a cheaper X800pro or a 6800GT and overclocking. Even I'm not going to stretch for an FX-55 though, when the new Winchesters are overclocking like 2500+ Bartons.

Enjoy your new CPU mate. The bragging rights on are you.

I've got the same Idea platinum but I'm gonna have the SLI motherboard when they finally arrive and run 1 x 6800GT until I can afford another one. The FX55 looks great and the 1 we have here for testing has been ultra stable so far
