New HDD
Ok, since last week i've been using a old (ish) 60gb DiamondMax D740X, but its high pitched whine is driving me INSAIN!!!
so i need a new/diffrent HDD
- doest have to huge, 80gb is more than enough
- doesnt have to be Sata
- need to QUITE, no louder than the segate barraV i had before
- whats good at the moment?

If it's noise you care about, one of the Seagate series would rule.
You can get an IDE Seagate Barracuda for £49.57 over at overclock.co.uk

ok, cool - and thats about the same tranfer speed as a dimonmax 9 isnt it?
- and although be last seagate die within a month of use, seagates dont have a bad reputaion, so it should be fine - although it did put me off then for a while!

Samsung Spinpoints.....nuff said!
-
Seagates for me - never had one fail, and a five year warranty.

Another vote for the Seagates here.
-
Samsung Spinpoint p80 or another seagate
-
think i'll get the P40 (SP8004H) Spinpoint, becuase a lot of people elseware have noted it to be a the quiter drive, and not much diffrence in perforamce

thanks to all
i was after 2 IDE drives, just gone for 2 X 160 gig Seagate Barracuda from ebuyer 50 something quid each, not bad
hasnt the price per gig come down ALOT in the past year

The Hitachi 7K250 have an incredibly quiet seek - just that rotation noise is transduced into vibrations. If your brave enough to supress that by some isolating/absorbing materials connecting to the drive cage, I'd actually give the 7K250 a thumbs up.
Otherwise, Samsung P80.

Another Samsung Spinpoint vote from myself

i found the spinpoint on the 120g was quieter than the seagates but on the 160g + the seagates were quiter.
sometimes u pays your money u take your chances. a nice set of rubber mounts always helps as well.
i use the zalmon hardrive cooler with 120gb seagate and due to its rubbers etc the drive is silent
