    Dans New Wireless Network

Right end of the month (well payday really ), I am gonna go wireless.

    I need -

1 wireless router with adsl modem, must have at least 1 wired port

    3 wireless pci cards

    1 wireless bridge (for xbox)

Now I would prefer 108mb/s kit, mainly because there are times when I transfer large files from my server to my client pc's. Although if I must will consider 54mb.

Wireless router needs to have NAT and good security, not sure what best is for wireless (wep? mac filtering?).

Would prefer high strength kit (db).

And of course has to be reasonably priced.

I like the Netgear WGT624, but what else would everyone suggest.

I cannot speak for the netgear equipment, but I have just got a Buffalo ADSL modem/router with AOSS and a few wireless cards for my network at home. Signal strength is great, I can even access the internet from the end of my street which is about 200-300m away from my house. The AOSS is a good idea for a "one touch" easy to setup security system and it supports all the usually WEP, MAC filtering and connects easily enough to any ADSL line.

I also got the Buffalo media convertor to switch from ethernet to wireless and this is connected to my xbox for the purpose of wireless connectivity to xbox live and sofar it has worked as it states on the box

I am pleased with my Buffalo stuff. (Wireless Switch, 1 PCMCIA card, and 2 PCI card with high gain aerial).

Linksys are also supposed to be good, they are a division of Cisco.

It hard to choose between the various alternatives really.

I'll third Buffalo. Haven't got one of their modems but I have a wireless bridge using a pair of them and they are never nice.

i had a linksys 'gateway' i think it was called, but basically an adsl modem/router - setup was v easy - on the net in 1 min... until i tried to connect wirelessly - could not get it working at all...
sent it back, got a netgear router - was fine. no probs at all - until a lightning storm fried it....
now have a buffalo - all working well - good security and easy to use/install/access.

p.s i would also recommend a draytec router - expensive, but the wired version was bombproof - never had to reset it EVER. i would assume the wireless version is the same (and the latest version supports voice over IP)

    (all had 4 LAN ports...)

Yup could recommend the Draytek series myself but as said before they aren't cheap.

Currently have Linksys WAG54G which has been a bit flakey but will current revision of firmware I get no signal drops from wireless.
