    Exclamation Problems with my partitions

    Hey again everyone.

I just received my new 200gb western digital today. ive been using the highpoint rocket 133 ide controller as i already have 3 hard drives anbd 2 cd drives. so here goes.

I usually have drive J (160gb western digtal) on the ide controller. but today i connected my new 200gb one as well ont he same ide lead. now when i go into my computer they can only read the new 200gb one. but it cant seem to find my old 160GB one which is completly full of important stuff.

now i think this happened before and i ended up doing somthin which wiped the drive (not gd) so do u guys have any ideas? that would find old and new drivers and not delete old one?

    Thanx Alot PyRo

My suggestion would be the following:

Go into device manager, expand the IDE/ATAPI controller list and look at their properties. Make sure nothing is disabled.

Also, make sure if the drives are both on the same channel, that one is slave, the other master.

These two things should not affect the data on the drives in any way at all.

    Definitely check master/slave settings.

First device on cable should be master, second should be slave, or set them both to cable select.

It's worth trying them as master/slave.

What sort of cable you using?

Try another cable too, if you have a decent ribbon one spare. It just rules that out.

I've had problems with drives where the sticker telling you how to configure the jumpers was "upside down". E.g. If it said you had to use the LHS jumper for CS, you in fact had to use the RHS one. This is only a problem when they don't show the position of the keyed pin, but it's something to watch out for.
