    BTX Motherboards

Does anyone know when (if ever) are BTX motherboards supposed to start appearing on the market?

    Thanks

    Mike

I really can't see the point in btx, especially as Intel have now abandoned the P4 Netburst architecture in favour of Pentium M core.. (which runs far cooler and so doesn't need the drastic re-arrangement to stop the pc turning into a molten lump)

Hmmm Ive not heard any news on the BTX front lately. I'm sure it will happen eventually but probably not as soon as planned. Its good to see that a few cases/psu's are already compatable with the standard.

I can't see how it would widen the gap between Intel and AMD. AMD would most likely adopt it anyway if it became de facto.

IIRC amd64 processors are difficult to use with btx because the memory slots have to be too far away from the processor and it causes signal loss problems because of the onboard memory controller. Therefor AMD don't like it because its just lots of hard work when ATX works fine, I think Intel are just doing it for ***** and giggles just because they can to make people spend more money, look at the LGA socket they've introduced, just what was wrong with PGA ?

It is completely pointless, it's all about creating a new market to exploit, and there's absolutely no reason to fall for it..
