NEC is faster as far as I know.

Check out www.cdfreaks.com for some reviews

I think they're both the same drives really, both have NEC Firmware. I think there are reviews on ebuyer, i read some yesterday.

If you do a search on the forums then i think you'll find a few threads. Almost everyone will say NEC

They've got the same hardware apparently, or at least the same NEC chipset. NEC seems to be faster overall though, and there's a lot more of a following in terms of hacked firmwares etc. as far as I can tell. Plus it's a couple of quid cheaper.

both great buys but I'd go for the cheapest.See if there's any software etc with either. My NEC 2510a is a great drive and so was my pioneer 106 before that.Whichever you choose you've made a good choice.

    Another vote for NEC here.

The "unofficial" firmwares are updated all the time to support more media codes and this gives better support for newer media.

http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php is a great place for firmwares and updates by herrie whos a great coder for a wide range of dvd drives but herrie seems to concentrate on mainly NEC drives.

I read somewhere, might have been on here that you can download a firmware which allows 4x media to burn at 12x
