My Sammy runs way hotter than my Seagate to the touch, but the Sammy seems to report temperatures way too low for it for some reason. It usually says 29C and its actually 44Cish.
This is to touch m8....the sammy runs way cooler then this seagate....
Yup i did but i don't think they're gonna be a quietOriginally Posted by myth

tbh i'd rather have a quiet hard drive, i can't see the extra cache etc doing much seeing that the rest of my system probably slows it down..........533FSB CPU, 266Mhz RAM AGP 4x etc!
I really should get a new mobo at some time
I got 2 of these running in Raid 0 - fast, v quiet, run cool and no they haven't died yet!

Thanks iranu but..........i've heard that the hitachis arn't meant to be that quiet :S
sure no probs... have to admit I bought these 4 months ago so maybe the technology has moved on. My priorities were quietness, speed, reliability, long life and 320gb for 130 notes (sata) is not bad. I believe at the time they were quite quiet and had very good reviews.
btw I've got an old 20g samsung spinpoint drive, 4 years old and going strong (bit noisy mind - old tech) that I use as a double back up for important stuff. Samsung usually = quality for PC kit imho.
Well, i've got a Samsung E700 (Phone) which has caused me no probs for the last 8 ish months!
Maybe it's because of the Samsung that you can't hear the hitachis?
Cache i've found makes alot of difference to hdd performance, always go with the largest amount you can afford.
Yup. i'm sure it does improve performance but i would rather have a quiet hard drive than an ultra fast one
