I too have a Samsung 160 GB (sata though) in my pc, and I have no complaints! Its the quietest drive I have ever had.
so i should definatly get the samsung then?
Well, I my self am a Seagate kinda guy... They have the highest desity, and have been around for awhile...
Also seagate now do 5yr warranties, normally they are only 3 years.
Get the sammy m8
but the seagate is in the opinions of the rest of us just has good
Get the sammy m8 !
just tested my 80gig seagate and am not impressed with the thermals on it....the sammy defo runs a lot cooler !

mmm carn't get better air flow then out side the case pal !
the sammy happens to be in my shuttle and even in that cramped hot area it was running cooler then the seagate.
also the seagate is a sata
Well, the poll shows an equal result and the Samsungs a few quid cheaper.... also its what i'm tempted to go for because its mean to be quieter whilst seeking
Thanks for the suggestions guys!
You can also make the Samsung seek even quieter and only sacrifice a tiny amount of performance. Even with Quiet Seek enabled it is still faster than the Seagate at most tests.
To enable Quiet Seek you need to use a DOS program made by hitachi, its a great little program. Quiet Seek will not work with Seagate HDs.
Go to http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm and download 'Feature Tool'. Then create a bootable disk/CD and run the program next time you restart!
The process of enabling Quiet Seek is fully reversable.
Well, i think i'll order one soon!
Thanks again for the help
P.S can anybody beat Tekheads at £63 + Delivery?
nope thats a dam good price! Tekheads, never heard of that
I think Tekheads are quite well known...... or i hope they are! Dabs are only a few pennys more though :S
yea, i noticed that! why do sata hard drives run cooler then IDE? There is a major diference...Originally Posted by Apex

Also have you looked into diamondmax 10's? I'm shure they will cost more, but they preform very well!
