Re: Budget Card For 720p Gaming

7770 is plenty for games like crisis 2, BF3, Deus ex:HR, all in pretty much maximum settings at 1680x1050, that's running in a x8 PCI-E slot instead of a x16. yes I know its bottlenecked a bit, but I just don't care, I need the sata slots for hard drives.
not got BF4 so cant say whether that will work or not.

cant say whether the others will be better.

and you haven't mentioned what budget your budget card is for.

Re: Budget Card For 720p Gaming

If he can afford the HD 7790, then go for it, Gigabyte HD 7790 1GB for £89.90.
If unfortunately not, then Asus HD 7770 1GB for £78.99.
The HD 7790 delivers a better price/performance ratio, but if it is over your budget, a HD 7770 will do as well (2x HD7770 installed in two different systems and they play at fullHD, so certainly would handle everything at 720p).

Reference for performance. Following this, dividing the avarage price of the above mentioned cards (price/performance) HD7750 gets 1.63 @ £71.99 (means you have to pay £1.63 for the same amount of performance as the other cards, lesser the number the better the deal is), HD7770 gets 1.66 @ £78.99 and HD7790 gets 1.5 @ £89.90.

On the other hand, a nVidia 650 Ti Boost gets a 1.45 @ 113.60, so it is a better deal at that price. A 650 Ti is slower that a HD 7790 and costs the same or more.

Just choose a budget and stick to it. These days there a cards for every wallet (different cards with every £10 step). Any of the ones mentioned by you will be just as good for your resolution. If I were you, I would invest in a second DDR3 DIMM module just to have more memory and have access to dual memory system bandwidth.

Re: Budget Card For 720p Gaming

    I have a Xeon E3 1220 and a GTX660 and I can run games fine at 1680X1050. A Core i5 2400 and a GTX650TI Boost 2GB are not that much slower TBH. Hence I would go with either the GTX650TI Boost 2GB and then the HD7790 1GB.

However,if it is the GTX650TI Boost 1GB then things will get a bit closer at higher resolution and when you use AA IMHO.

Even with a HD 7770 after some OC you should be able to play at high settings at least.

If your interested in AC Black Flag and Splinter Cell I'd definitely look at the GTX 650 ti/GTX 660; they come free so may be worth it

    I would get the HD7790 over the GTX650TI non-Boost.

If comparative prices varied that much, this whole thread would be pointless.

Well he says here, that he can afford there where he lives only a HD7770. So I would say that the comparative prices matter.
