i would say wait as the nforce 4 boards will be out soon and then you can nab a a64 3200+ as they are touted as the new 2.4c P4's and clock stupidly high.

Yes all those components will transfer to the present A64 boards. You need to decide if you are going Socket 754 or 939. The n-force 4 will be no good to you as it requires a PCI express graphics card. To keep in your budget look for an A64 3000 and an Nforce 3 mobo (Asus K8N ) both Socket 754

If you're going 754 the board that looks best to me is the DFi Lanparty nf3 250 http://www.cpucitystore.co.uk/catalo...roducts_id=569

Personally I'd look at socket 939 though ....

    Yep get what Vaul suggests.

The new 90nm winchester core at 3200+ is a great chip. Good overclocker if you like that sort of thing. I don't know the specifics of the A8V 939 mainboard but Assu are a usually very good. You may be a little over £200 but worth it IMO.

does an athlon 64 processor @ 3200 have better performance than an athlon 3200XP on software that is not 64 bit?
