Is it worth changing my HX520W for this PSU??

    I just posted this deal:

    http://forums.hexus.net/retail-thera...bay-store.html

It is for an M12II 520W PSU,for around £29 without the cables(I don't need them).

However,I do know the HX520 is earlier revision of the platform but is not as efficient, and my example is nearly 6 and a half years old.

I am getting some upgradetitus and I wonder whether I am being silly in considering replacing the HX520W. My rig at most consumes around 200W at the wall under gaming load(Xeon E3 1220 and a GTX660).

£34 including P&P (not sure if the Scan postage offer applies to the ebay store). Good price, but a bargain is only a bargain if it something you need! And if your set up only takes 200W, you'd be better getting a 250 or 350 W unit that wouldn't be much more than that anyway.

But somehow I think you've already made your mind up - just haven't admitted it yet!

I am hankering after a Seasonic G 550W too, although that might be more like a January purchase(unless I spent all my moneys getting plastered over Christmas or the Moose needs extracating from a spot of bother).

These are nice little units (SFX form factor good for tight spaces)

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/450w-...an-sfx-eps-12v

Bit pricy though. There is a modular version too, for about £12 more.

Re: Is it worth changing my HX520W for this PSU??

IMO, no it is not worth upgrading from an HX520/620 to a Neo Eco 520/620. I wouldn't have done it when I had a HX620.

Where is the upgrade? Aside from being newer, is the voltage regulation better? Is the ripple and noise suppression better? Is the efficiency better? Is it quieter?

I suspect that the answer is: negligible.

Suppose you will get a warranty again, seeing as the HX520 is out of warranty by now.

However I think the Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 450W @ £35 is the better option because at least the efficiency is much higher (80 PLUS Gold vs Standard/Bronze). The unit has an advertised fan speed range of 700-1450RPM and has a 5 year warranty. All Japanese capacitors according to the ComputerBase review, whereas Antec Neo Eco uses Su'scon, according to the forums.guru3d review, which aren't Japanese.

Re: Is it worth changing my HX520W for this PSU??

From the pictures on HUKD and the single review of the 520W version, the capacitors are all Japanese, and does have some warranty left(7 year one).

However, you are both right,it would be a sidegrade!

I should be aiming for a Gold rated unit as they are getting cheaper now.

I do have this PSU too:

    http://www.shuttle.eu/products/xpc-accessories/pc63j/

Its Bronze rated and is probably the most powerful SFF unit(uses Japanese caps and Teapo ones and is made by FSP). Only thing it won't fit in my current case without modding!!

That review is for the 520W version.

One of the problems is that it is an eteknix review. The other problem is that the resolution of the pics isn't very high, so one can't easily check for themselves.
However if you look closely at this picture you can see that at least one is Su'scon.

The one under the secondary side heatsink, nearest to the small transformer and transient filtering coil.

Seeing as the rest of the secondary side caps have the same colouring, which is very similar to NCC, and that Malaku @ forums.guru3d said they're all Su'scon, means that I think only the primary capacitor is Japanese.

Re: Is it worth changing my HX520W for this PSU??

The one on Guru3D is not the same PSU,its the non-modular version.

    Edit!!

On HUKD someone did open up their 620W version:
