    Verbatim DVDs

I hear that certain Verbatim DVDs are better than others? 001-003?

How do you tell which is which when ordering?

    MKM003-96542-30 spindle
    Mkm003-97000-50 spindle
    MKM001-95310-20 spindle

    Mkm001 are labeled 2.4x
    Mkm003 are labeled 8x

Some say that the 001's are better due to them being made in Singapore, I have no previous experience with them however.

Most retailers wouldn't differentiate by batch numbers and so on - you'd need a specialist online retailer or a local shop that you're friendly with I suspect. Have you tried any local PC shops? You might even just be able to go through the ones on the shelf in PC World/WHSmith/Rymans and see what batch numbers they have on the shelf.

In what way do you think they are 'better'?

    Re: Verbatim DVDs

I only ever used Verbatim DVD-Rs and I'll be honest and say I've not noticed any difference in any of the batches I've had, and I've had a lot.

That's speaking in terms of burn speed and reliabilty. The important stuff. You can look at the massively in depth reviews and one might be slightly better than another, but you'd never notice.

Having said all that, If I saw them on offer somewhere (ASDA have them cheap occasionally and Maplin used to do a 2 for 1) I'd rifle through and try and find a "Made in Singapore" over a "Made in India". If you are buying online, I'd spend the extra again and get the "Made in Japan" Taiyo Yuden discs, they have a reputation for being superior (as before, you probably won't notice) but they also feel much nicer in-hand. Lovely smooth edges.
