    Exclamation NEC 3500...... help!

got a bit of a problem with my NEC 3500

im trying to burn dvd encoded video to a disc, but it wont burn whatsoever. ive tried using nero 6.6.0.0 and 6.6.0.1, as well as NTI cd and dvd thingy.

im using windows xp sp2, with all of the latest updates.

when im in nero, i add the files as normal, it reallocates them, then caches them and says its completed caching, but it wont start burning... same issue in other burning programs... then it decides to totally hang the program, even a good old ctr-alt-del "end process" wont get rid of it, nor will the system shut down, which means i need to force power off.

this drive is brand new, and there is no reason why it shouldnt be burning. i checked NEC site for firmware but there isnt any yet.

also, burning program reports dvd burning speeds of 1x, 2x and 4x - but it is a 16x drive!?!?

as always, all help will be appreciated

    thanks

does the drive limit the options based on the media speed? if so, then that would make sense, as its 4x disks lol, but it still doesnt explain why the drive refuses to write at any speed...

Yes the drive will limit speed shown according to the media. Will the drive write cds ok, is this the first time you have used it? It might be worth asking over at cdfreaks.com, there is a dedicated NEC forum.

Sounds odd to me - try updating aspi drivers, it probably isn't that, but it can't hurt

Hi, I too have an NEC3500, which may ahve had similar probl;ems initially. Mine was resolved by running AnyDVD in the background. There is a 21 day trial version available from Slysoft.com

    hope this helps
