Standby Server
OK, i maybe this should be in networking, but..
I have a old PC working as a file/domian server (win2kAS), it stays on 24/7 - so its always ready, but i was wondering if theres anyway i can get it to go into low power "standby" mode (or even just turn the HDD off) - automaticaly, and then come back when it next gets accessed
- is this at all possbale>??

I think you should look into the power management options in Win2k, there should be an option to switch off the hard drive after a specific amount of time.
Bah, just realised I was using my Win2k laptop, all the options you need are on the screensaver tab in properties (on the desktop) under power management.

If you want the monitor and hard drive to turn off after a while right click in the desktop, select properties, select the screen saver tab and click on the power button. Then you will have options as to when you want things to turn off.
If this for some reason does not work try using the BIOS power management settings - same features but just in the BIOS.
Dam you Furton you replied while I was writing my reply!!!! :)

You could probably set it go into proper "standby" mode too, although you'd need a network interface supporting "Wake On LAN" and it would make accessing from standby mode... a little slow.

Why not call Microsoft, of course they could support you since you spent so much on your AS license

Ok, thanks everyone
- Furton, Timmy - thanks, so obvius, totaly forgot you could do it there, thanks
- Kez, might have a go with that as well, seeing as its already set up for WOL
- and David, lol, no need for that, lol
