    High pitch noise

    I recently built a new system of a Seasonic 660W PSU, R9 280x, 4670k, 8GB RAM.

I noticed that when I open certain games I can hear a (fairly quiet) high pitch whining sound. I'm not entirely sure where it's coming from, but I'm guessing it might be coil whine from the power supply?

    Any thoughts?

    Re: High pitch noise

Is it a seasonic platinum 660w?, I recently had to RMA one for similar constant whining.

    Re: High pitch noise

I think that they have revised the unit, looking at my replacement PSU the side of the box says the model is SS-660XP2

I haven't tried it yet though.

    Re: High pitch noise

Whilst I can't help with the resolution of the issue, this high-pitch noise is known as 'capacitor whine' and can be the result of less-than-stellar quality components.

I've seen some really weird fixes in the past such as (and don't do or quote me on this), putting nail polish over the offending capacitor!
