    Upgrading my existing system

    Hi,

I'm thinking of upgrading my computer (details on the left) with a new graphics card and an SSD. I principally use my computer for Photo-editing and gaming, but Lightroom has slowed to a snail's pace and my current graphics card (a 7770 that I won from a Hexus comp - which replaced my 4850) isn't really cutting it for recent games.

I have about £300 to spend and am currently looking at a Radeon R9 270X and a 250Gb Samsung EVO SSD.

Are these my best options (i.e. if I upgrade these components will I see a significant improvement?) or is my system too old to reap the benefits of this new kit? If so, is the best bet just to start from scratch (and spend a bit more on a completely new system)?

    Thanks!

Mainly Race Simulation and FPS (e.g. Fallout series). Currently mainly playing Assetto Corsa (Steam pre-release version).

    Re: Upgrading my existing system

I would say start with those two and then see, if it's not cutting it you can look at upgrading cpu+ram+motherboard
But you should be ok with just upping the gpu esp at 1920x1200, putting a small FSB overclock might help too.
SSD will make the whole thing more "snappy"

Fallout 3 and Fallout:New Vegas ran fine for me on an overclocked Q6600 and an HD5850 1GB at 1680X1050,and an HD7770 1GB is not massively slower than an HD5850 1GB.
