DFI introduces Pentium-M mobos for desktop systems

The inquirer is reporting that DFI are ready to release Pentium-M based motherboards for desktop systems. here. Ok so the specs of the board are pretty crap for a new board but finally some one has brought the performance of the pentium-M to the desktop. This can only be a step in the right direction (providing intel dont put a stop to it).

The AOpen board is apparently out already. One of the Japanese LN2/Dry ice crew used one to take a Dothan to 3.2GHz Anyway, these do look cool. The DFI board is actually designed for small servers it seems, they have a PCI-X slot on a M-ATX board although the inclusion of an AGP slot suggests that they intended to sell it as a desktop board too.

Nope the Pentium M does perform a lot more work per cycle than the P4, just like AMD processors.

I actually thought it was more than 25%, I thought it was about 50-75% faster partly due the 2MB L2 Cache.

Although having a PM will be great in a desktop, the desktop version of the PM will be even better when it comes out as Intel are planning to put two processors together and clocking them nice and high!

In some areas they are faster/better, depends on the activity its doing as with all cpus. Anand have a nice review of the 90nm Dothan core.
