    Network Switch? Splitter? Hub?

I am looking to take a network cable form my router, and split it between my gaming PC, raspberry PI and eventually a couple of other devices I imagine!

Rarely will they be used at the same time, but if for the sake of a few quid I can guarantee they can all work together I am happy with that.

At the same time I am not sure what it is I need.... hub, splitter, switch etc? Ideally lower the power the better please, as chances are it will be left in the attic and ignored!

    Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks

Wel, you'll be hard pushed to find a hub these days, so you are looking at a switch. If you have a device with a DHCP server built in (usually a router) you can use dynamic IP addresses, otherwise just assign a static IP address to each device - probably using the 192.168.1.xxx class C range with a net mask of 255.255.255.0.

As you are using a router, then a simple switch will be fine.

Grab a switch - if it's just for internet access you won't even really need gigbit, and a 10/100 5 port switch will set you back less than a tenner if you shop around

If theyre going to be off, rather than just not using the network, you can get away with a hub, although these days you might find them harder to get hold of, so just buy a switch instead, about £5-10 will get you a 5 port 10/100 Switch.
