Control Media PC from another room?

As title suggests, I will be sharing the output form my mediaPC in my lounge between the TV in the lounge and HDMi over cat5 cables to my bedroom. I had a sky + marmitek pyramids to relay the remote signal so I am looking for the equiv but that would let me use mouse/keyboard and a separate remote as well based on what I am doing in the bedroom.

Final solution is a 15mm USB lead extension into the loft with bluetooth or something above the bedroom but this is not a neat or easy solution to implement. Can anyone suggest anything?

Wifi covers whole house, and I have a network cable (data + HDMi extender one) ran to the bedroom.

There are free apps for smartphones to use them as a mouse and keyboard over wifi. I use Gmote for android

or get an rdp/remote desktop client. If you want to make life easy for yourself get a cheapo 7" android tablet to use specifically for the task: I used to use an HTC Magic (500ish MHz ARM9 processor!) to remote in to servers at work, so pretty much any android tablet will do the job
