Using a mac keyboard in windows

So I use windows 7, and now use a Mac keyboard due to my frustration of finding a reliable wireless windows one. Naturally, there are a few equivalent key annoyances, but I am learning the work arounds. The main annoyance has been the delete key, which I know understand is Fn + Backspace on the mac keyboard.

However, sadly, this does not work to get into the BIOS, which says use the DEL key, but this combination, which works in windows, does not work preboot. Can anyone help?

    Thanks!

I believe you need to install apple drivers. Logitech ones are pretty reliable. Most of my family members use them because they're the only ones that have worked.

I was actually just looking at how to do this as well as I don't really like Mavericks running on my MBPr.

Re: Using a mac keyboard in windows

Having a quick look around on the google machine it appears there isn't a work around. Unless you can give your computer a keyboard error on boot (sometimes works by mashing keyboard on boot) or maybe setting BIOS to error without keyboard and boot without keyboard so it errors and gives you the option to use F1 to enter BIOS (obviously plugging in the keyboard at this point).

The general solution seems to be keep a very cheap keyboard in a cupboard for the odd times you need to go play in BIOS.

Thanks guys. I do have a wired microsoft one in the loft (I have no idea how you build a computer from scratch unless you keep a wired one about?) so I will have try that.

Re: Using a mac keyboard in windows

I would always keep a wired one around, because as you said it'd be extremely difficult to build a computer with a wireless one. How are you finding battery life to be on the wireless keyboard?

Re: Using a mac keyboard in windows

Aren't Apple keyboards Bluetooth? Therefore they wont work in BIOS as Bluetooth isn't active. Something like this would be the kind of thing i was going to go for if I wasnt gaming or addicted to mechanical keyboards.

On my Asus Sabretooth Z77 I can use F2 as well as Del to get into the BIOS, not sure if that would help in your case.

I think, as biscuit said, that it might be because it's bluetooth. I didn't think of that before hand.

Thanks guys, that probably explains why fn + backspace works in windows then. Up into the loft I go...!
