So do you think the initial board releases will be OK? I've often waited for "Rev 2" - and been glad that I did.
Well the problem is, if you wait for the improved, or revised, or new version of something... you're always waiting.
At some point you have to take the plunge. I have planned on doing so EOY/shortly afterwards. I'll assess what's available at the time and buy what's best.

I also seem to getting the impression that NVidia, at least, are now doing such a good job with their reference boards that there's less for the manufacturers to fiddle with (and cock up...).
Yeah, although they seemed pretty miffed when manufacturers failed to make use of the agp/pci lock on some NF3 boards.

Buying a computer before Christmas is never a good idea, as I've found a couple of times to my cost. Prices always take a tumble in January.

That's very true too. Reductions just don't happen in the run up to Xmas. In fact I've seen several prices rise in the last few weeks.
Apart from the socket 939 sale. The 3500 and 3200 are going to be a special cheap price running up to xmas. Read my other thread about it titled AMD64 sale. Starts tommorrow and scan say they are going to do it.

Yeah AMD are doing a price drop over a set time before Christmas this year.
Hopefully the nforce boards will be here before christmas so I can have my new system up and running on xmas day
As for the revision - pffft I'll get a new one if a "better" revision appears, I did this with the Abit NF7-S and still have the older version running as a file server.
As for the promotion - IIRC the price looks as if its already dropped a little and the price is at the special until 25th/26th December,
If I hear any more information on the nforce4 ( or if my motherboard arrives ) I'll let you know
