Sk83G (via skt 754) restart problem.....pls hlp

Sigh, another build, another problem i've never had before, anint it just the way?

I'm building this sk83g for a friend.

sk83g
3400+
512 corsair value
maxtor ide 160gb
£7 modem
nec 3500

All thats on is win xp sp2 and the drivers.

About half the time when i restart the thing, it shuts down windows then stops, with the monitor off but the fans BLARING away at top speed. It just stays like this.

It did this before any drivers were put on.... So is there a bios option i should be tweaking? I'm trying to update the bios but it keeps giving me grief in very terrible english. " Bios is load. Again?" I mean really....

Looking foward to any suggestions.....

Also - copying betwen partitions is REALLY slow. like 4 mins for 500megs. My pc takes 45 seconds or so.

What the hell is going on? I built a machine of exactly the same spec as this a month ago, that was fine! sh17!

getting rid of these seems to have speeded up copying AND stopped shutdown problems.


If anyone else has similar problems then i hope this might help.

SK83G buyers take note..... Brill machine by the way......though id hold on to my money till xmas... but that's cos im tight!

COOL THUNDER! I LOVE THUNDER. One of the few things that keeps it's magic as you get older. Like thick falling snow or the feel of a warm ocean as you throw yourself into it. or fixing your computer after 3 hours of google-abusing anxiety. happy!

NOT HAPPY! It just started not shutting down again! GGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRR.!!!!!!!!!

So if anyone has an idea about what might stop a shuttle from fully shutting down.........sob............i need help!

hmmmm seems it is somehow relateed to HD activity - if i give my HD a rincing, then try to restart - it hangs. If i just sit around in windows for a while, then reboot - it works everytime. This is stating to get the better of me, i sure hope someone else thinks of something soon.

just to close this monologue.....turned out the mobo was faulty. The replacement restarts fine with original componants.

Bizarrley, the Hard Disk Thrashing itself on copying/moving has been cured with the new mobo as well. Wouldnt have thought that, but not complaining!
