anyone else here own a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120GB ATA/133 HDD? because i got one earlier this year, purely as a storage device for my laptop (which only has a Hitachi 40Gb drive) and i am having serious problems...
today, for the third time, the drive completely died on me - windows recognises it as "Local Disk (E:)" instead of my labelled "External (E:)" and when i try to open it it gives me an error about it being unreadable... having it connected slows the whole system, as if it is constantly trying to detect the drive.
as i am running through usb, i am unable to use any of the maxtor drive tools, dos doesnt like usb lol! i tried to make a dos bootable disc, but with no success.
anyway, what i did is i installed "stellar phoenix fat & ntfs" a nifty little program to help recover some of my more valuable data, but only have a about 10gb free on my laptop, i will lose like 100gb of data!
well, as i mentioned, this is the 3rd time it has happened, and you can imagine how annoying this is! is it something that im doing? or is it a faulty drive? can i just send it to maxtor and theyll send me a shiny new one?
cheers

Reset the PC & drive and everything was fine again
I put it down to heavy drive usage over USB, as Desktop was resetting and XP running slow. Drive was also 75%+ defragmented
