Is This a Good First Time PC Build?

HDD - 1 TB WD Caviar Black Hard Drive
    MOBO - Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3
    CPU - Intel Core i5 4670k
    OS - Windows 8.1 OEM
    Case - Corsair Carbide 330r
RAM - 8gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 Jet Black LP
GPU - EVGA GTX 760 SC ACX
PSU - Corsair 600w Hybrid Modular

Just looking for opinions on the build. Any tips or recommendations are welcome as I'm new to this PC building malarkey. I do have someone who can help me build the system so I am alright in that aspect. I'd be buying from Scan as I have had past experience and was very pleased with them and their prices.

    Thanks
    Will

Hi Will, what's your total budget? If you can afford it, I'd be inclined to include a Crucial M500 120Gb (or higher) as a system drive...it really improves a system's responsiveness.

I'll mainly be using it for gaming, watching videos and itunes. No video editing or anything like that.

My budget is around £750-800 but I can stretch that easily if it is worth an investment

    Thanks for the replies

Re: Is This a Good First Time PC Build?

Jimbobgod1969 is right, I'd edge more towards a standard 1TB drive and a good 120-128GB SSD drive for your main OS and apps.

That Crucial drive HERE or Corsair Force or maybe Toshiba.

I'd also be looking at the R9 270X or R9 280X rather than the GTX 760, mainly because of the R9's performance The R9 270X (some heavily overclocked is similar to HD 7950) and R9 280X are overall a bit better than the GTX 760. However in some cases (BF3, Far Cry 3) the GTX 760 will easily pull ahead because they enjoy nVidia's cards a bit more

Everything else looks dandy no need to go overkill if it's just gaming.

Re: Is This a Good First Time PC Build?

Forgot to add I do have some headphones, OK keyboard, a very good mouse, monitor and 7.1 speaker setup. Another question is whether or not I will have to get an internal sound card in order to use the 7.1 speakers and a headset.

When you say a standard 1TB drive do you have any recommendations and whats the difference between the one mentioned above and a standard drive?

Re: Is This a Good First Time PC Build?

I would add to the previously suggested SSDs this > Plextor PX-128M5S 128GB for £ 69.74. And if I can suggest, forget about the extra performance on the WD Black and go for the cheapest 1TB HDD (or the cheapest with 2y warranty as for the WD Black like Hitachi Ultrastar A7K1000 1TB for £42.66 with 5y warranty).

If the PC would be for gaming, could be the potential future owner to be persuaded into a AMD option (hexa or octa-core) and spend the saved money into advanced cooling for overclocking and further improve him GPU options? I am sure some more AMD versatile member would be happy to advice.
