Price check SCSI RAID
I'm contemplating selling my SCSI setup before I've even installed it properly as I know I really need more space, so it looks like I'll be going IDE :(
3x 73GB Quantum Atlas drives, all 10k, 8MB cache, 4ms seek time (2x 10kIV, 1 x10kIII, all in warranty)
LSI Megaraid elite 1600 Dual channel RAID controller, 128MB ECC RAM onboard cache battery backup included as well.
Any ideas what I should ask for this lot folks?

each HDD is worth about £30 to a SCSI man
The controller is worth about £30
So really £100 to £120 according to peoples love os SCSI.
The issue now is that SATA is popular....space is cheap on it and normal ATA...and CD burners are cheapo cheap on EIDE....whereas SCSI burners are A: rare and B: money...and C: DVD scsi is rare too...
I love my SCSI though.....would part with it for the world.
I reckon its a job lot of £100 ish :(
sorry fella...I know thats gotta hurt

Surely he'll get more than that? I'm crap at price checks but I got about £3 for a 9GB and single channel Adaptec SCSI controller not that long ago.

the hdd's are cheap cos so few peeps want them....the controller IS valuable to someone....but how long might it take to find that person?

I think you're being overly pessimistic Zak - the drives alone are going for £100ea on fleabay & the controller for around £150.

I wouldn't pay £100 for a used 73GB Atlas 10k IV. But certainly 75-80 if I have some assurance that the drive is in good condition (primary concern really - new, those drives go for well over £100). I am not familiar with SCSI RAID, but a regular SCSI controller (U160 or U320) cost close to £100 (with cables), so I wouldn't be surprised if SCSI RAID controller do go well above £100. To be honest, if I could afford it, I definitely would go SCSI. There is nothing stopping anyone from using IDE for optical drive, IDE/SATA for a massive storage, and the SCSI drives as main (OS/App), space in the case permitting (cable will be a nightmare - I know - I used SCSI before - if its bad enough if you throw in IDE into the deal, but even worse if you have IDE and SATA).
I like SATA for the cabling.. And the Raptor's relatively good vlue/performance (cheaper than SCSI, much better than IDE drives). But for identical model, there is not much difference between SATA and IDE (basically, drives matter a lot more - and the fastest drives are SCSI).
