I personally can't see much point in them. You could probably achieve the same effect putting a ferrite round the power lead going into the card, and wrapping the rest in aluminium foil, which you then connect to ground.

Edit: just reading a review at Xbit labs now, might elaborate in a minute.
Edit2: Ah, just read it. They're basically just a low pass filter to take out some of the high frequency interference from the power lines. Whether that interference has any effect though is debatable. You could achieve the same effect yourself with a couple of cheap capacitors and a bit of soldering; I don't believe that the shielding actually does very much at all. Having said that though, $15 for two cables is hardly a ripoff for this sort of thing, they look nicely made etc. I'd say that unless you do have a snowy display though it's probably not worth bothering.
