Need Quiet 40mm Fan
I have put together a SFF EZ Buddie 2 - very nice, very happy with it.
It has 2 fans within the unit (the PSU is seperate so I can pretty much "hide" it).
The CPU fan is 80mm and lovely and quiet.
There is also a 40mm case fan which is placed to be cooling some coils on the motherboad (I am no expert so have no idea what these are for).
Anyway, the 40mm fan whines as it constantly rotates at approx 6000rpm.
I would disconnect it, but I like my house and don;t want it to burn down.
I have been looking at makes such as "moomi", sunon etc. - who can recommend a VERY quiet 40x40x20mm fan?
-
would it take a passive motherboard heatsink such as a Zalmon ?

found a review of the machine here http://www.macuser.co.uk/macuser/cus...die-2-i43.html and it would appear that it is the northbridge that you are referring to. If so, then you could try as suggested above and fit a Zalman NB cooler or maybe a micropole.

Can you elaborate on the Zalman cooler?
I am a bit of a luddite - how would I know if it fits?
My fan is 40mmx40mmx20mm - and it is crammed into a SFF - so no much room for other cooling method I think?
What does the Northbridge look like and what does it do?

Northbridge - The single integrated circuit in a core logic chip set that connects the CPU to the system memory and the AGP and PCI busses. Other functions are provided by the southbridge chip.
