and what you just DONT NEED with a Creative sound card, is MORE software. Bloatware...../shivers...

Funny how they've jumped to Audigy 4 so fast.

Either way.....other people make sound cards with slightly less....how shall I word this....LESS RUBBISH INSTALLED TO YOUR REGISTRY AND PC, hence your PC can boot up THIS WEEK not next

Funny they even picked the number "4". Thats an often skipped number, especially in Asia.. Ever wondered why you never saw any "Artic Silver 4"?

    AS1, AS2, AS3, AS Ceramic, AS5.

Edit: I am not too keen on their bloated software myself.. Not used an SB since the Live! 5.1, so I don't know if they did any trimming (doubt it, probably bloated further), but the installation space requirement were pretty silly at the time.. And for audio overall to be honest.

I *might* get the A2ZS after I get the Gigaworks.. But only if I find a good deal for it.

And really, are you going to notice a SNR of 118 vs 108 when playing your fav. game ?, i know which one id put money on.

No kidding. At one point, creatives software used to install an advertising client, which used your net connection to get ad's (see http://www.cexx.org/newsupd.htm), for this alone, i will try to avoid them whenever i can.

I belive its due to "four" sounding like the word "death" in one of the languages (chinese ?), although im not sure on which one ?

I agree with the comments on the drivers and software being bloatware and I for one was severely annoyed when XP came out and the drivers for the Audigy 2 caused errors everytime you rebooted - you had to clear about 10 "serious error" messages from windows just to be able to do anything on the PC.

Cheers for scaling down the images btw - a lot of 56k'ers will be happy now

With the advent of stuff like the 8.1 surround thats appearing, is the cost of the audigy cards actually worth it ?

For example - Soundstorm vs Audigy 2 ... I for one removed my audigy 2 and use soundstorm without noticing any difference and also the SS is digital output so my speakers can take advantage of this without having to spend in excess of 70 quid just to get the same features on a creative card with bloaty drivers.

More to the point (sorry ), is 8.1 really worth it ?
More wires, more space, and what supports it anyway ? (upmixing dont count).
Totaly agree on the SS front though, the digital out is great.
We just need more highend manufacturers producing soundcards, creative just dominate too much at the moment.

ARGH!! GET THAT AWAY FROM ME!!!!
Yup, came bundled with the software of the Live! 5.1 I had.. Hence my dislike of Creative software. Did they remove that? I suppose that I would give them another chance if they did.. Its been a few Sound card since.

And yea, "4" sounds (kinda) like "Death" in mandarin (and I assume other chinese dialect). This is extended to Japanese and Korean as well.
If I am not mistaken though, 14 is worse, as it sounds like "Certain death".
    Gota love the language

"8" is the lucky number in chinese culture, although that didn't extend to Japanese/Korean culture. Did you see the news of the chinese guy who paid an insane amount of money to get the a phone number made mostly of 8s? (Its pretty recent).
