    Post Hardware Survey

    Steam are conducting hardware surveys, to gather information for stuff. I found the results page quite interesting:

    http://www.steampowered.com/status/survey.html

    I'm quite surprised that most people still don't have service pack 2 yet....

    What do you all think of these results? Is it what you thought, or completely the opposite?

    If this is the wrong forums, then please feel free to move it - I put it here because it mostly deals with hardware, but it could have gone in operating systems or general.

    SP2 is not nice but you have to use it or XP will die a horrible death under the weight of the 3000 million viruses released for it every day. Besides the people who bitch are incapable, you can turn off all of the features you dont like, but the security is better.

    Oh, so i guess the huge bugs in it, such as it entirely stopping some systems from booting are nothing to do with bugs in somthing Microsoft has release....hell no....perish the thought.

    Not if you already run a firewall, keep your AV up to date, don't use IE etc. etc.

    i admit it is a complete mofo c**t to install but seriously you need it, im not defending MS in anyway btw. if you use windows you need to get SP2, live with the monopoly (thats why a monopoly is bad)

    That is what SP2 is, except it bugs and annoys you to keep things up to date, unless you turn it off .

    Agreed IE is baaaaad, noone should use it.. ever. SP2 makes changes that are not to do with security as well, such as performance and memory updates, registry tweaks, stability, and other stuff.

    Exactly - I already run a hardware firewall, SP2 doesn't have AV & as for IE...
    Had Sp2 on - took it off.

    I don't get it - how can you have just a 5 pixel width screen??? Is it some sort of sick joke ?

    No idea. Some of the colour depths they have there are also a bit dubious. 5 and 6 bpp are a tad low - 32 and 64 colours, respectively. On the other hand, 127 is absolute overkill, coming to roughly 170,141,183,460,469,231,731,687,303,715,880,000,000 possible colours (Completely ignoring alpha blending for now).

    You don't. Steam reads your system info and sends it back to base, where it's added to the stats.

    However, it's still a bad graph as the data shouldn't be continuous.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    I'm surprised there's so few Win2k users tbh. As for XP, I've heard more success stories than failures with SP2 but when it does fail it goes bang properly!
