    Recommend a cheap laser?

After another officejet died within 18 months, I think I've had enough of them.

I'm considering a mono laser, but haven't used them before. I ran a few HP Lasers for work, but they cost about £150 to refill and I don't use the colour all that much anyway.

    Main requirements would be:
    Duplex
    Cheap to refill
    Reliable
    Ethernet

    Anyone got any recommendations?

Very good printer - shame it has gone up from £70 about 9 months ago which made it a very good buy indeed - but even at the current price it is hard to beat.

The caveat is always to look at the longer term costs though. The toner isn't too bad, but the drum has a life of 12,000 pages.

    This costs more to buy

But the drum lasts 2 1/2 times as long as do the print cartridges.

Just get the lowest mileage HP Laserjet 4100 you can see on eBay - check whether it has the duplex unit. I can send you a free + postage JetDirect card if you need one. Original HP cartridges still probably go for peanuts on eBay.

If you live in West Yorkshire you can have my 4100 (sans duplex unit) - I'm moving soon to a house which already has a 4100, so I won't need two

I have 2 lasers and always use refilled toners, can't say I have personally noticed any difference and it brings the running costs right down.

    Re: Recommend a cheap laser?

What make and refills are you using, Jon?

And thanks for the recommendations, Peter and smargh. Both a little more than I was thinking of spending, but to be honest if I can get some decent mileage out of them - as opposed to my previous batch which might as well have been disposable - it's probably money well spent. Sadly nowhere near West Yorks, otherwise I'd take you up on your offer!

I'll see what other suggestions come in, and think it over. It's becoming a real PITA not having a printer at home.

It looks like there's a non-WiFi version for around £80-90 called the HL-2250DN which might be a winner.

I use Green Tech toners, you can find them in various places, Amazon, ebay etc. Good toners, never had a problem.
