Asus Maximus III Gene not POSTing

I've an Asus Maximus III Gene paired with a i3 540. Graphics card is a 660 GTX. When I turn it on, all the lights and fans come on but the PC won't POST. I've reseated everything that can be reseated to no effect. All cables are secure and correctly inserted.

So, what am I missing? I'm really stumped as to why it's not POSTing at all. Both motherboard and CPU were pulled from working machines so they shouldn't be an issue.

Re: Asus Maximus III Gene not POSTing

1, I would say to remove the dedicated GPU and try to post without it, using only the Intel HD GPU but you don't have that option. Your situation reminds me when a PC boots but the picture comes out from somewhere else that you expect

Did you try to connect the monitor to a different output on the GPU?

Put the GPU into a different slot, see what happens.
Remove the GPU altogether, see what happens.
Matter of fact, remove everything but the CPU, RAM and GPU and see if it still does the same.

If you wouldn't mind to post the rest of the components, please (CPU cooler - what kind of, memory modules - what kind of, PSU - what kind of, monitor - what kind of).

If you connect a speaker to the MoBo, do you hear log in sounds or you don't have a OS yet installed?

Have you cleared the CMOS? It could be a setting in the BIOS that is preventing your system to display anything.

Re: Asus Maximus III Gene not POSTing

You could try just taking it back to the breadboard and only having the bare minimums connected, that is one stick of ram and the cpu and seeing if you get a picture using the cpu graphics. You could be shorting something with it in the case.

Motherboard has been returned now as I couldn't get it working at all. All necessary cables were plugged in, everything was seated correctly... No idea what the problem was.

Re: Asus Maximus III Gene not POSTing

I didn't get the same motherboard as it was a second hand socket 1156 job. Ended up splashing out on an i5 Haswell and cheap Asus motherboard which are now working nicely.
