    An odd one

    A new build per my sig and the SSD and HDD are in the SATA ports 1 & 2 and work fine.
    However the optic drive doesn't appear at all unless it's in the secondary grey ports with the Marvell controller.

    Problem with the mobo ? Or some sort of driver issue ?

    Or possibly Atari.

    Have you checked the BIOS settings to make sure all the ports are enabled and what SATA mode they're set to? ISTR having a similar issue with two of the ports on an AMD board that were controlled separately and had to be set to IDE mode to recognise an optical drive (or something like that, anyway ).

    Yeah some drives need to be configured IDE for the SATA ports.

    My SpinPoint HDD couldn't understand my board and nor could the onboard SATA controller; in the end a firmware flash required it when the port was in IDE mode. Newer/certain onboard SATA controllers sometimes has hissy fits with older drives if it is an older optical drive.

    Wow, that optical drive must be a good one if it's on its third build. That is, if you don't build your pc every year or month or day.

    It could be becuase its in a SATA 3 port rather than a SATA 2 port?
