    New cpu 64 combo?

    Howdy,
I stopped following what was hot and whats not in the world of cpu advances a while back now. I come to look around for a new cpu and mobo and bleh! Soo many different sockets!
What im looking for is a semi decent set up, will be running 1 gig of DDR and a redeon 9800 pro in it as well. Need a mobo that suits it all as well.
Had a quick look so far at a 3200+ "newcastle" (i think). Really dont have a clue anymore so any help would be great. Please keep it cheapish.
[Edit] Ideally AMD, just cos i always had em [/Edit]

Whats the difference between newcastle 130nm and winchester 90? Manufacturing process or sumthing isnt it? Summin to do with clockability? Probably won't OC it.
Another thing, these newer boards, do they have both PCI express and AGP slots? As i dont really want to be upgrading my gfx card as well. Im dead impressed with my nforce 2 i have atm, so wouldnt mind an n force 4

You can't get dual channel (S939) 3000+/3200+ Newcastles right now. All of them are Winchesters. The Winchesters are better and cheaper (except the 3500+ which is about the same price as the Newcastle 3500+).

Actually if it's cheap you want you should check out the Gigabyte K8NS Pro 250 S754 and a 3000+ Newcastle single channel. A fantastic combo at a very reasonable price. Makes much more sense especially if you are not upgrading your video. A S754 A64 system with a 9800 Pro will run any game just fine at very respectable framerates, and you will be 64 bit capable when Windows XP x64 Edition is officially released (something that most people running Intel systems can not claim).

    Chaintech VNF3-250 & a 3000+ would be even cheaper (or a plain K8NS rather than Pro) - ~£160.

    MSI P55-GD80, i5 750
    abit A-S78H, Phenom 9750,

In most things the dual channel makes very little difference. Once everybody goes to 64 bit Windows XP it will be even less of a difference.

With either dual or single channel your 9800 Pro will be the bottleneck still, so getting a really expensive CPU is not a good idea unless you are moving to a faster GPU, and even then it depends on how much faster. The 9800 Pro is a very nice card though. On any A64 it will be great!

Yeah, only difference between s754 and s939 is the membandwidth imo.
