depends what speed you are looking at, 3200, 3500, 4000, 4200...
id personally get corsair 3500xms, or some good decent 4000ddr
If running stock then PC3200 is all you need. As always with RAM stick to decent brands such as Crucial, TwinMOS or even Adata. If you want to o/c the RAM needn't be limiting as running async doesn't impact perf overly and many like to push > 1000FSB which no RAM is likely to keep synced. If you do want to o/c (and that depends on what CPU you choose) PC3500+ is wiser but again much depends upon specifics. Just rem to consider the speed diffs for how much extra cash you're paying, Corsair is tops but WAY over-priced.
always thought samsung is good !!
their pc2700 can hit 197mhz easy
if your going to overclock you want pc4000
if your staying at stock speed PC3200 will do fine
funny guys the lot of you
if your overclocking get adata pc4000
i cant stress this enough... its the best bang for buck ram in the p4 o/c scene
256mb stick will set you back a just under £50, and a 512mb £100 compare that to the £80+ for 256mb and £140+ for 512mb for ocz/corsair - neither of which tend to hit the same fsbs (although usually manage tighter timings and lower fsbs - hence why adata isnt used for amd o/c)
lol at this thread. everyone has given a different opinion on each manufacturer of RAM. If i had a pentium system i would probably get Corsair.
not a bad overclock, but its no use for running 800fsb QDR, you need something that will definitely do 200mhz, and preferably at cas2.Originally posted by garath

corsair XMS is always a good one - i would go for the xms3200c2 - the 3500 and twinx stuff uses the same chips, although handpicked (whatever that means), and should be nice and fast.
corsair XMS uses (mostly) winbond CH5 chips, which should be good for around 250mhz (but no guarentee!).
also consider twinmos pc3200 w/ winbond - i have some BH5 of this stuff which does 230mhz, and the CH5 variant is supposed to do around 250mhz.
There's plenty of differing advice but none of it bad at all, just people stating their personal prefs etc.
If running stock PC3200 is definitely all you need, any of the brands mentioned are fine so consider prices. From what I hear there's no need at all for low latency with P4 800FSB. Corsair are well overpriced and with so many manus offering PC3200+ I don't see the point in paying through the nose. Matched pairs and 'hand-picked' are also pointless ways of getting more of your cash. Hand-picked refers to the process of testing the whole array of chips for the 'best' chips which I can't see any company truly doing even at Corsair prices. Anything above PC3200 is not a true std so in a very real way you are taking your chances esp with compatibility.
I would still suggest you consider what return you'll get for the extra money the 'top' RAM requires, and rem that P4C 800FSB even o/c'ed don't need anythign better than PC3200 as running async isn't as bad in practice as it is in theory ... with 1000FSB+ you're very likely to end up async anyway regardless of what RAM you buy. IMHO Adata PC4000 is top choice with Crucial and TwinMOS (esp Winbond) close behind (mostly due to the increased cost).
joy... someone agrees!Originally posted by Austin

async is almost 100% with abit boards (255 sync wall atm... future bios SHOULD fix this)
but with an asus many have reached ~ 275 sync fsb...

xms3200ll and 3500c2 use the same (same as TwinX - being matched pairs)
xms3200c2 uses LESSER chips
my xms3200c2 uses winbond ch5 chips, which i dont really consider 'lesser' - if so, what to?
bh-5 chips or bh-4
yes bh-4 arent in use yet... but a prototype of adata had em on it
There was me thinking that CH5 was the next revision to BH5, i thought that the letter was the revision number of the winbond memory.
But i agree, A-data sounds great, i'm seriously considuring getting 2 sticks of 512mb for my canterwood rig, to run at 250fsb sync rather than my 5:4 ratio with my current 2*256mb of twinmos with winbond.
If you've got the money go with A-data, otherwise just stick with twinmos w/winbond pc3200.
