    Solar Powered Microserver

I've been doing some digging to see if it's viable to power my Microserver from Solar.
First things first, why bother with an an inverter, then an AC-DC power supply?

    How about a PicoPSU? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mini-Box-pic...ywords=picopsu

Apparently any voltage from 6 to 20 V input is fine. I believe the 160 W one won't fit inside a Microserver.

    200W Solar Panel kit.

    (Think it's designed for sheds)

    A deep cycle battery http://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/pr...%7cA+Layer%7c/

And some adapters. I can't find any right now but haven't spent much time looking.

Total cost looks to be circa £500-£600

Power consumption of my Microserver with 1 HDD idling was 22 watts at the wall before. Now it's got 4 disks but hopefully a PicoPSU will offset some of that as it's not wasting energy with the AC-DC conversion.

I might actually give this a go when I have enough spare time. More of a hobby thing than a cost saving/long lasting UPS type thing TBH.

If it doesnt fit, youre not trying hard enough.

Whilst the PicoPSU might not fit in as is, you could always get, or make, an ATX PSU extension cable, then it will fit anywhere you glue or affix it.

Solar Panel kit is a nice idea but it might not work so good if its on 24/7 during the night its getting no charge at all so if you not bothered about that then it could still work ok for your needs
its abit pricy but it can pay for its self over the years

theres also a few designs of the pico psu the one you shown is tall it sticks up alot you can get flat ones if thats the way you want to go like this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/24pin-MINI-I...words=pico+psu
