Speakers 2.1
I work from home occasionally and like to listen to a bit of music whilst I work. My venerable Creative PC speakers have finally just stopped working.
I mostly game with a headset and I'm not an audiophile, so I'm after a decent but not huge of speakers. Doesn't have to be 2.1 bookshelves would do.
A colour other than black would be good too.
What do you think ?

Re: Speakers 2.1
Gumtree or Ebay, see if you can find a decent set of speakers (i got lucky with a set of Monitor Audio Gold Ref 10s), link them with a DAC or Stereo amp, so much better than any PC speakers. (G8ina will back me up on this).
I spent a fair amount on mine, more than i originally intended anyways, but no need for a sub in my setup. Any 30 or 40 quid bookshelfs are going to sound better than pc speakers tho, imo.

I have no idea about amps and stuff though. Can you point me in the direction of something super simple ?

Re: Speakers 2.1
Any amp will have RCA inputs on the back - would look like this, on the left: http://audiovideoworld.files.wordpre...titled-613.jpg
(That's a Marantz PM-32 amp from the 90s, one of which was generously given to me by g8ina)
You can get a 3.5mm -> RCA cable, which will take the sound from your PC into the amp.
Then the speakers plug into the black and red sockets. It's all fairly universal.
I wouldn't have the first clue about what's a good model and what's a bad model, but I would imagine that the guys around here know their stuff. I have compared the PM-32 recently to a modern Cambridge Audio amp and although the latter is clearer, both are miles ahead of my Creative T40 set (which have been relegated to TV duty).

Re: Speakers 2.1
Wot he sed.
Look for NAD 3020, 3030, Creek, Marantz, Pioneer, Technics, all old classic amps. Speakers, JPW, Gale, Wharfedale Diamonds, KEF Codas.
All dead cheap in ebay.

Re: Speakers 2.1
Just as an add, I use a TEAC unit which is a DAC/Amp, it uses optical rather than the RCA connections. Most mobos have options these days.
Don't go breaking the bank tho, older broken in speakers can sound loads better than brand new ones
