    hey guys, i finally go the money to ugrade my cPU, im currently running the old Crappy fart

    ass Polomino core 2000+, anways i got 2 cPU to choose from. i been thinking all day, got a

    huge headace, i was nearly about to get the 2600+ barton, i then change my mine, i mean

    wouldnt it be better for me to get the 3200+ barton FSB400mhz, i got new set of hardcore low

    latency rams, Geil Ultra x 2x512 dual channel, please tell me which CPU is better for my ram

    or system, i list my system specs down below, i want to overclock, alot to see how high i

    can get, to a stable spot, does the Cpu FSB has to be syncornise with the ram pls tell me how this works ?? this old fart at auspcmarket, says i gotta run Cpu and ram at

    synncronise together ??? or i got instability, please help me choose one , im exuasted !!

    Ps: are both of these Cpu locked ???

    spec: NF7-S Rev2.0|5900XT|Geil Ultra X 2x512|2000+ palio core|

    Get a mobile cpu (2500xp prefferably, 266mhz fsb) with some low latency mem, do the 166fsb L12 mod on your NF7-S and it will fly .

    Normal bartons don't worth their money nowadays, go for a mobile which also have unlocked multis.

    You can do a lot of things as far as the processor is concerned here is what i think:

    1) Athlon XP 2500+ if you get this you can easily overclock it to a 3200+ by just changing the system clock to 200Mhz (resulting in 400Mhz FSB). Stock cooling should be fine for this but I would recommend a silent boost or something like that. And yes this version has a locked multiplier. So you can only get to 3200+ speeds by adjusting the FSB.

    2) Mobile Athlon XP 2400+ or 2500+ Do the same thing as above with these. These have unlocked multipliers though so you should be able to reach speeds of about 2.4Ghz. I would recommend a thermalright SI-97 if you can get one, a Thermaltake Silent boost would be fine though that is what I am using.

    You did say you wanted to overclock and see how high you can get it, so I would definitely say get the Mobile Athlon XP 2400+ and if you can get it with the lowest watt-age some are 45watts (1.45v) others are 35watts (1.35v).

    I myself do have GEIL ram 512 DDR400.

    RAM / CPU FSB Settings:
    Basically the ram has to work in conjunction with your FSB so if you have a Athlon 2500+ (333 FSB) then and don't plan to overclock then you would have to get DDR333 memory. Even if you got the DDR400 memory for the Athlon 2500+ it would only run at 333Mhz unless you overclocked your FSB to 400Mhz. I hope that was simple enough

    So

    266 FSB => DDR266 (PC2100)
    333 FSB => DDR333 (PC2700)
    400 FSB => DDR400 (PC3200)

    My purchase suggestion:
    Mobile Athlon XP 2400+ (35watt)
    Thermalright SI-97
    80mm or 92mm FAN
    Arctic Silver 5 paste

    Hope that helps.

    Shuttle AN35N nforce2 Ultra 400, Mobile Athlon XP 2500+ @ 2.4Ghz, GEIL 512MB DDR400, Thermalright SI-97, ATI Radeon X700 Pro 256MB

    I can only repeat what's already been said - go for a Mobile Barton! They have an unlocked multiplier and lower stock voltages means more overclocking headroom.

    i Have a Tbred xp1700+ it goes upto 2.1ghz at about 1.85V, I usualy stick with a stable cool vcore and run at 200x9 @ 1.5v as my machine is rarely off though i sometime crank it upto 2ghz using the cmos reloaded for benching.

    It runs very quietly at that .

    The core of my Rig is an DFI nf2 infinity, 1gb of crucial ram in dual channelsetup and a radeon 9800 pro.

    Would i beinfit from a xp-m Barton core processor, i can pick up a xp-m 2600+ for £71. I currently use a Thermalright sk-7 and 80mm fan on a fan controler to keep it quiet. I'm also tempted by the gigabite 3d rocket pro cooler as it should be able to cool it suficently while being quiet and more efficent than my current heatsink fan, and i can still crank up the rpms for the summer .

    I at times i also do a fair bit of video encoding so i know it would help their.
