    upgrading pc

I am looking at upgrading my pc

I thought I had cpu problems but it seems to have settled down now. might have just been the hot weather we have had lately

but I got it in my head that I was having a new cpu so I think im going to upgrade it anyhow.

my pc is a few year old now so if im upgrading the cpu I need a new motherboard and that means new ram too.

this is what I have decided on

    mother board

    cpu
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel...u-35x-ratio-84

    ram
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-(...9-9-24-xmp-15v

I am going to keep my 750w ( I think ) psu and radeon hd6950 graphics card

does this look like a good setup?
this is going to be my first build.

What is your current case, or are you upgrading that too? If the warm weather gave you issues before you should consider wither it has adequate air flow for your new build.

I have this case but in blue

    http://www.xcase.co.uk/x-case-9805-p...00-x-case.html

It has 6 fans and I had them all running. It's still playing up now but not as bad as what it was. It's getting old now

    Re: upgrading pc

With 6x FANs it is odd that you had problem...

Also, don't bother going for the PRO modules - pointless. Just choose the cheapest 1600Mhz CL9. You can't OC the RAM anyway on H97.

P.s.: any chance to take a picture of your current PCs interior with the side panel down? So we can formulate advice's better ;-)

    Re: upgrading pc

That case is more that adequate I would say. The problem could rather be the CPU, the settings for the CPU, state of the thermal grease (god save if it is the gray kak Intel applies to box coolers), the settings to the box cooler (manually kept low RPM), the layer of dust or all of these combined and present in one way or another.

With a Haswell and SpeedStep enabled in that case with 6 FANs I can hardy imagine something similar to happen.

    Re: upgrading pc

Well as some you who knows I do have a bad processor and a great graphics card for gaming and finally after a lot of convincing electricity bills I decided to switch to Intel. But currently don't have the money right now so by the time Broadwell comes out I will definitely have enough for a new motherboard, hdd and hopefully I7 5770K. Plus I even decided to buy the PS4 coming march just to play The Last Of Us and other exclusives, If its there for PC I will only buy PC versions.

    Re: upgrading pc

I would definitely recommend msi combos as it was my favorite. Go with msi z97 gaming 3 or gaming 5 plus an msi r9280x.. that would be great and would not totally hurt your wallet

    Re: upgrading pc

Are you planning on overclocking at all? You can spend a little bit more and go for the 4690k
