Format HDD
Hi
I am new to this helpline so please excuse any strange questions.
I have just built a new computer P4 3.2, 1Gb memory, 2 x 80 Gb HDD's, CD and DVD. I have put 1 HDD as master and CD as slave on the primary IDE and 1 HDD as master and DVD as slave on the secondary IDE. I set up the machine using XP and it configured floppy as A:, 1 HDD as C:, CD as D: and DVD as E:
How do I configure the second HDD? I would prefer it to be D: and move the opticals to E: and F:.
Help!!

Ok
I'm not sure if you have XP home or pro and if there is any difference in them.
But, if you right click on my computer and select "manage", that will bring up the Computer Management console.
From there, select Disk Management under Storage on the left hand side tree view.
It may take a few secs to refresh, but you will then see the hard discs and cd / dvd drives on the right.
If you right click on the DVD drive, there's a "change drive letter and path". From there, you can change the drive letter to F:
Do the same for the CD drive and change to E:
you now have D: available for the hard drive.
Depending on the status of the hard drive, you may have to write a "signature" on the drive. If the drive is not partitioned, you can partition it and format it either as NTFS or as FAT32.
All of the partition / format commands are obtained by right-clicking on the drive like you did to change the drive letters.
HTH :)
