Cold boot: power button > power off and then start normally?

This is what happens :

1) System powers on, fans start spinning...for 1 second
2) Then system powers off...for about 3 seconds
3) Systems powers on again and works fine from then on.

After doing a bit of answer hunting im 50/50 on findind a solution.. Everything runs fine with no BSOD or random restarts.Playing games like Arma3 and BF4 causes no problems.
It's a new board ,memory and PSU ...
Here's a small list of possible causes i found :

Lack of power (PSU) ?
CMOS (Change battery)
This is what some boards do when cold starting (this is the one i think as i don't get any problems when PC is fully on

I had the same thing happen on my old board, it was a 775, had it for years and had no problems. Don't think its anything to worry about.

Mine does this sometimes as well. I've never really taken the time to worry about it, so I can't say much more, but I don't think it's that odd.

I'm sure I've had it on previous machines as well.

my theory on this:

the system does a quick pre-full-boot check to see whether everything's connected properly, like fans and large components
then it does a soft-shutdown and checks whether the power is going around the PC properly, testing for unusual power drains or shorts.
if it then passes those tests it the whacks the full amount of power into the PC to boot properly.

I've always thought of it like that, as some sort of inbuilt power test type thing. so nothing to worry about unless it doesn't urn on after the second boot that is.

I may be completely wrong about that though, its just what I think is doing it. I don't know what wants to test like that, be it the CPU, mobo, PSU or whatever, its just what I think happens.

Is time kept correctly by CMOS?

Also, have a look in BIOS to see if there are any options for short POST, for example.

I've had S775 and S1366 boards do that, never was a problem though.

Interesting that your running an AM3+ setup.

I like to add that when i do a restart it shuts down for about 3/4 seconds then boot up again !

My old setup just done a smooth reboot without delay .. Strange but everything is in place and everything works

If I change memory timings on my Asus P67m-pro err p67 mobo it will do this, because it's being special.
