thermal paste

when i remove my hsf what should i use to remove the old thermal paste. is there anything round the house you can use, white spirit etc. is it ok to use a cotton bud as well?

White spirit will be ok. just make sure no lint is left on the core if you use a cotton bud.

i just normally use a tissue and wipe it off.

ive never had to do it before so im just wondering how cautious i shud be. does the core scratch easily or not.

only if you use sanding paper

haha, ill give that a go. what grade do u use!??! .

the reason im asking all this is cus ive got 2 remove my hsf cus im transporting my comp to Uni and i dont want it 2 snap off hehe

If it is a Stock HSF you may find the thermal pad pulls off with the Heatsink.
