    Switching inputs

I work a lot from home and plug the work laptop into my home monitor, which is a bit of a pain, as I have to unplug my box, then plug in the laptop. It's also means that if I want to use the web whilst working I have to crawl under my desk and repeat.

Is there some sort of simple switch available so that I don't have to keep unplugging and plugging my box ?

    KVM switch.

Or buy two cables so you just switch at the monitor without having to crawl under the table.

    Re: Switching inputs

KVM switches are a standard thing made by many different companies. Just put the term into Amazon / Ebay / Google and you'll find loads.

    Re: Switching inputs

Yes sorry, it's a type of thing, not a specific product. Keyboard, Video & Mouse switch or something like that. Mostly designed for people who use the same peripherals to interface with several different computers or vice versa. Check they've got the right inputs/output for your use.

    Re: Switching inputs

Bit of an obvious question I know, but does your monitor just have one HDMI connection? If it's got multiple connections (for example, DVI or Displayport), you could connect your desktop to one of those, & keep the HDMI connection for your laptop & switch between them on the monitor?

In the old days KVM switches used to be reversible, ie you could connect two monitors to one PC, or two PCs to one monitor, but I'm not sure this is the case today.

    Edit!

Something like this might be the cheapest solution?

    Re: Switching inputs

    I use

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Way-Manual-U...=A8Z30HEYE6OTY

I found that no kvm switch seemed to work with my gaming keyboard and mouse and the autoswitching etc just didn't work. This is perfect for me, keyboard and mouse are connected to one switch each, with 3 cables going to server, work laptop docking station, and main gaming pc. My monitors have multiple inputs so can just use build in monitor source switching.
