    Oculus Rift

Does anyone have one? What do you think?

I've been playing with a DK2 for the last few weeks. The set up took a while, drivers had conflicts, but once it was working, fantastic!

HL2 in the rift is probably the best gaming experience of my life, and it's a ten year old game! I don't have ED or TL betas, but the potential is incredible. I was dubious about VR, thinking it might be another passing fad like 3D, but in my opinion this really is the future of gaming.

I'm watching Cyberith and Sixense, there's so much potential for this technology.

If you get the opportunity to try a Rift, don't miss it!

    Re: Oculus Rift

    Yup.

It's a fantastic bit of kit. Even the developer editions we have are pretty polished (minus some driver issues at you say).
A few more apparent issues when developing with them, but worth it when working

I'd like to get one, however the current dev kit cost is too much to really justify, that and it's a dev kit

Yeah, that's how I feel, but I would really like to try it with games like BF4, Elite: Dangerous and a drving game like Need for Speed Most Wanted.

Not really. They got the investment they need and could hire more staff.
Sony and others are making competing products. If they wanted to stay in the game, they had little choice.

I can't wait. ED with head tracking and Voice Attack is already phenomenal, I can't wait to get a Rift on the go as well.

    Yup!

Plenty of people with a Rift and ED use it because a keyboard can be tricky to use, even looking through the nose holes. So anything that's not on a joystick gets mapped to VA. I tend to just use it for energy management and browsing the holographic screens. There's something very cool (nerdy) about using head tracking to look at a display and then talking to the computer in order to navigate around it.

Dammit, I was trying so hard not to want to buy into ED until release! But I'll take this convo to the ED thread, since it's not directly related to the Rift

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/...99_634x286.jpg I haven't tried them yet, only on YT, but I think it's a really exciting project. Obviously gaming will change completely, but I think this kit will facilitate a creative wave of uses, that we can't imagine yet. Especially if they look this cool!

I've used 2 DK1s and couldn't keep them on for more than 30 secs at a time. It made me feel very sick indeed, which is gutting as I saw it as the ultimate accessory for my driving seat and G25 combo

Maybe it was the screen/resolution/drivers/something but I will be trying one before buying now......still haven't tried a DK2 yet

Not tried a DK2 yet, but was so impressed by dk1 that I'm sold on the tech. Managed to decide against ordering DK2 but sure I will go for Consumer release. Elite, Star Citizen and driving games should be awesome!

The DK2 is much, much better. The latency is very small. Most people who had sickness don't get it on the DK2.

I have quite bad travel sickness. I felt it a bit with the DK1, although nothing too bad. I've never felt it with the DK2. It just depends on how sensitive you are I guess.

    Re: Oculus Rift

Anyone know how it deals with the varying optical abilities of different people? At my age I simply can't focus at less than 20cm out with or without my specs. I'd need special 'occulus specs' just to use it if it doesn't carry adaptive optics!
